I'd like to set it up as a LLC
Hi all.
I have a website/venture that I started about a year ago, mostly as a hobby. It has become quite popular and is gaining more publicity, and I'd like to set it up as a LLC, to avoid the possibility of being liable if any legal or monetary scenarios were to come up.
I also have a business name that I do some of my own work and projects under, and I registered that trade name in the state of Maryland (where I live) so that aI would be able to open up a bank account using that business name.
The question is, am I supposed to set up the site/venture as its own LLC, or would I be able, and would it make more sense, to set up my main business name as a LLC, and somehow officially have that site/venture run by and running under the main company name? This also would allow me to set up additional ideas/ventures under the same LLC, without having to set up additional LLC's each time.
And if it would be possible, and make more sense, to set up the main company as a LLC, how can I officially set things up to have that site and venture (and any future ventures or ideas) being run by, and being protected by, the main company?
Any input and ideas are very much appreciated, and I hope I provided enough info to get some input - please let me know if you need any more information.
Thanks a lot!!

If you have additional business ventures that you want to fall under the LLC, along with the web venture, then it makes sense to include them in the LLC - unless you have reasons you want to segregate your business ventures in which case you should segregate your ventures. We know only what you have told us, which isn't enough to suggest which approach is better for your specific situation.

I think I'm going to set up just the main LLC, under the name of my parent company.

RE: I'd like to set it up as a LLC
Fill out the LLC Articles of Organization form.
This is usually a relatively simple process, as the only things you need to notify the state about regarding your LLC are items such as name, its business purpose, principal office address, the "registered agent" for receiving any legal documents, and the names of the initial members. You do NOT have to specify at this point the ownership distribution or management structure, just the names of the LLC's members.
